Imo Govt. Trains Health Centre OICs on Implimenting Health Insurance for Maternal and Child Health Care

Imo state health insurance agency IMSHIA has organized a two-day training for officers in charge of the primary health centers who are implementing the basic health care programme provision fund in the state.The training was held in Owerri on the 3rd and 4th October 2023 at Foret Event Center.
The Executive Secretary of Imo State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Uchenna Ewelike in his address pointed out that the training was necessary based on the gaps identified in the first quarter of their MIE review, stressing that the training will facilitate life savings skills for pregnant women, children under 5 years and elderlies.
According to him, “this programme is in line with Governor Hope Uzodinma insurance policy to ensure that volunerable population in the communities have access to quality health care services without sufferings, financial hardship, we are implementing in the 305 INEC wards, but because we have secondary facilities where we refer people for surgeries and all forms of medical interventions, we are training 340 health care providers.
“We are training them in life-saving skills, which includes maternal health, child health and elderlies, this training will enable them know the level which they can manage and at what point they can refer, they have done very well from our records so far because since April 3rd we have not recorded any maternal or child death”, he revealed.
Earlier in his speech, the Commissioner for Health Insurance, Dr. Barthy Okorochukwu who declared the event open reiterated that the essence of the training is for the officers in charge (OICs) to know what they are required to do at any given situation, adding that it is the brain child of the governor, Hope Uzodinma that every imolite must be insured to have access to quality health care services.
“Monitoring and evaluation is an integral part of our Programme activities, it was on this cause that we noticed there are gaps hence the need for the training, Imo state government is committed to bringing quality health care to the door step of every citizens of the state, the issues of ill health, lacking of treatment will soon be a thing of the past,” he stated.
